Born into a family of distinguished musicians, Aparna’s musical journey began under the careful tutelage of her parents. Her father, Sri Balu Raguraman, is a respected violinist, and her mother, Mrs. Subathra Raguraman, is a well-known vocalist. From this foundation, Aparna's talent and passion for the violin flourished, with her early training deeply rooted in traditional Carnatic techniques.
Aparna’s violin arangetram, a significant milestone in her musical career, took place in 2022 with the guidance and support of her Guru, Sri Srimushnam V Raja Rao, a leading percussionist in Carnatic music. Her arangetram marked her formal debut as a professional artist, affirming her readiness to contribute to the classical music world.
Aparna’s exceptional talent was recognized early on in her musical career. She won first prizes in the prestigious Watford Music Competitions in 2014, 2015, and 2016, as well as in the Croydon Music Competitions in 2016 and 2017, a testament to her growing mastery of the violin. Her accolades continued with the National Youth Fellowship from Milapfest, awarded to her for 2020 and 2021, further cementing her status as a promising young artist in Indian classical music.
Aparna has also expanded her musical horizons beyond the traditional Carnatic sphere. In 2021, she was featured as a special artist in a group conducted by the world-renowned sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar, performing at The Queen Elizabeth Hall at the South Bank Centre in London. This high-profile performance showcased her versatility and ability to seamlessly blend into diverse musical contexts.
Aparna has had the opportunity to tour internationally, most notably in Italy, where she performed a series of concerts organized by the Isha Foundation, sharing the stage with some of the world’s leading musicians. Her performances are praised for their emotional depth, technical precision, and ability to captivate audiences with the beauty of the Carnatic violin.
As a dedicated student of her craft, Aparna has actively sought to refine her skills through ongoing training and mentorship. She has attended workshops conducted by acclaimed violinists such as Sri Ganesh Rajagopalan and Sri Lalgudi Krishnan, both of whom have left a significant influence on her musical style. Aparna also occasionally trains under the celebrated violinist Miss Akkarai Subhalakshmi in Chennai, further enhancing her technical and creative approach to the instrument.
